What is cast vinyl
A cast vinyl is a high end vinyl used specifically for vehicle graphics, mainly vehicle wraps. Cast vinyls start off as a liquid which is poured into a mold creating a casting sheet. The pour is extremely thin and creates the vinyl you find on the roll you would purchase. Cast vinyl is clever as it does not try and go back to its original shape. Because of this you can stretch the vinyl easily to follow the shapes and contours of the vehicle you are applying it too. Standard vehicle graphics would use calendared vinyl, this should never be used on wraps or partial wraps. Over time the vinyl will shrink and try to return back to its original shape, causing the corners to lift and gaps to appear. There is more information on the types of vinyls used here. There are many manufacturers of cast vinyl which which include Hexis When producing van graphics cast vinyls are used as a premium product, costing considerably more than standard calendared vinyls. It's because the manufacturing process is more complicated, the vinyls will cost alot more to purchase. For basic vehicle graphics a standard vinyl will work perfectly fine, but for complex shapes cast vinyl should always be used. Cast vinyls also come with additional options including a lamination, air release or air egress. Lamination is added to further enhance the finish and extend the life of the printed vinyl. Air release and egress materials allow to you push out air bubbles, quickly and easily either through the material or from underneath. This is especially important on large areas of material where you don't want to be finding air bubble between the vehicle surface and the vinyl. Find out more by visiting Broadland Digital
